Bridge Street Theatre to Unveil New Marquee This Weekend

By:

Bridge Street Theatre (www.bridgest.org), the newest addition to the Hudson Valley theatre scene, will officially unveil and light the marquee over its main entrance in a ceremony to take place on Saturday, January 2, at 3:00 PM, at 44 W. Bridge Street in Catskill.

U. S. Congressman Chris Gibson, NYS Senator George Amedore, and other local officials will preside over the ceremony, which will coincide with the start of Bridge Street Theatre's second season of provocative plays, music, and art in the resurging village of Catskill.

In just under two years, Bridge Street Theatre, in association with its resident production company Kaliyuga Arts (www.kaliyuga.com), has transformed a hollow shell of a warehouse into a vibrant performing arts venue - a multimedia facility with three separate performance and exhibition spaces, office and rehearsal space, a scene shop, ample storage, and guest artist quarters.

The first season was nothing if not varied: Shakespeare, Inge, and other great playwrights old and new; cabaret evenings featuring jazz, classical, bluegrass, and contemporary standards in the theatre's

Speakeasy; exciting solo shows like "Bond: the story of a soldier and his dog" and "The Epic of Gilgamesh"; exhibitions of large sculpture, poster art, and balloons (yes, balloons!); and, for the second year, the ghoulishly delightful "Nightmare on Bridge Street", a haunted house extravaganza constructed and performed by the students of nearby Catskill High School (who, incidentally, are turning out to be great partners in turning out great theatre).

With the unveiling of its new marquee, Bridge Street Theatre now firmly and officially establishes its presence on the street and in the community, proudly taking its place as part of Catskill's and Greene County's culture and history.

Bridge Street Theatre, a recipient of a major New York Main Street Downtown Anchor Project grant from the New York State Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, was founded in 2013 by Catskill residents John Sowle and Steven Patterson, long-time partners in theatre and in life. John and Steven have been "rendering oddities with grace and insight" in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and the Hudson Valley since 1986 through their production company, Kaliyuga Arts.
