StoryBook Theatre to Announced 45th Season at MISPLACED Fundraiser

StoryBook Theatre is opening the curtains for their 45th Season of productions, called the Season of Hope, with the intention of bringing light to a difficult time in the arts. They will formally announce their new season on June 19th at 7:30 p.m. during the MisPlaced Fundraiser.

Presented free and online through the StoryBook Theatre website for everyone to enjoy, MisPlaced will bring together a cast of 25+ artists celebrating 45 years of creating quality theatre programming in Calgary. This 90 minute fundraiser is the perfect way to share the talented artists of StoryBook Theatre and support one of Canada's leading theatre for young audiences as they gear up to launch their return to presenting theatre in-person.

"After a year of finding new ways to engage and create, we are thrilled to see a light in the dark as we move towards in-person presentations," said Artistic Producer JP Thibodeau.

"As we planned our season the word hope continued to be said and seemed fitting for what is about to come. Hope is our superpower and I know we are longing for the days we can return to a new sense of normalcy. We are coming out of a dark time for the arts and I really feel it is our responsibility to bring light to our community," added Thibodeau.

SEASON 45 LINEUP - The Season of Hope

THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY / August 20 - September 4, 2021

From Drama Desk Award nominees Neil Bartram and Brian Hill (The Story of My Life), The Theory of Relativity is a joyous and moving look about our surprisingly interconnected lives. Whether you're allergic to cats, in love for the first or tenth time, a child of divorce, a germaphobe or simply a unique individual, audience members and actors alike are sure to find themselves in this fresh new musical.

"Take a Physics manual, blend it with the sound of The Book of Mormon, the hilariously nerdy references of The Big Bang Theory, a sprinkle of Chicago, few drops of Glee, bake it in a Broadway bowl, use all the originality you can have...That's the successful recipe for the spectacular song cycle, The Theory of Relativity."

The Theory of Relativity is the 2021 Student Summer Intensive Program production. The production will be presented in person at the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre, following AHS restrictions, and will also be available for streaming online.

SBT STUDIOS / Starting FALL 2021

The restrictions and isolation of the pandemic forced us to rethink "live" theatre presentation and allowed us to hone and build skills that we never thought would be so forcefully married together. But film and theatre have gone hand in hand this past year and so we are embracing all we have learned and will spend the fall creating a series of live and pre-recorded online presentations. There will be something for everyone, all free online ranging from weekly talent and competition shows to behind the scenes documentary style presentations. This new adventure will provide more artists an opportunity to engage and share the magic of storytelling on film as we work toward a full reopening in 2022.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC / November 26 - December 19, 2021

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Sixteeen Going on Seventeen" and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain Von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

The Sound of Music will be presented live, AHS restrictions permitting, and has no plans to stream at this time.

DISNEY'S - THE DESCENDANTS / February 11 - March 12, 2021

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney's The Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical comedy featuring the beloved characters and hit songs from the films!

It is present-day, and in the kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney's beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos - the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar - are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents' sworn enemies. Now entering a completely foreign world and way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents' wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

Disney's - The Descendants will be presented live, AHS restrictions permitting, and has no plans to stream at this time.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL / April 21 - June 4, 2021

The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes centre stage. The power of optimism really can save the world!
