An unlikely collaboration between singer songwriter Lauren Pritchard (LOLO) and writer Michael Kimmel (The Last Goodbye) has resulted in the whiskey-soaked new play "Songbird," which is now set to land at Joe's Pub on July 21. Set in Pritchard's home state of Tennessee, the play looks at the darker side of country music and the musicians that create it. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you an exclusive sneak peek at a song from the show, titled 'Cry Me A River.' Check it out!

Based on Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, Songbird is a story of whiskey-soaked nights and hangover dreams in Nashville's country music scene. Country music star Tammy Trip returns to the bar she was discovered years ago to help launch her son Dean's burgeoning songwriting career. But she may be doing more hurt than help...

At the crossroads where chart-toppers become has-beens, and country hits are tested below dim lights and sticky floors, Kimmel and Pritchard's play is a raw and acoustic look at a community of creatives, fueled on talent, passion and booze.

Directed JV Mercanti (Romeo & Juliet), a reading of this 'play with songs' will take place at Joe's Pub on July 21 at 9.30pm. Tickets are $18.00 and are available now at www.joespub.com.
