2008 MAC Award Winner for Major Jazz Artist, (the most recent of seven total MAC Award wins) and 2008 Nightlife Award Winner, Natalie Douglas, presents the return of her new show, "CAFÉ SOCIETY," to the Birdland Jazz Club, following Lucie Arnaz for four shows on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17 at 9:00 and 11:00 p.m.

"CAFÉ SOCIETY" is a tribute to the songs, the people, the spirit and the style that were all a part of the legendary Greenwich Village nightspot of the 30's and 40's, Café Society.  Opened as a response to the nightclub practice of segregating or simply excluding customers of color, Café Society not only allowed all races to sit in the audience, but took pride in treating them equally, and featured such legendary performers as Billie Holliday, Lena Horne, Hazel Scott, Mary Lou Williams, Paul Robeson, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald.

Natalie will be joined by her longtime Musical Director, MAC Award Winner and Avenue Q Conductor, Mark Hartman and her band of Broadway All-Stars (from the pits of current shows), as they bring Duke Ellington's Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me, Strange Fruit (which Billie Holiday first sang at Café Society), the gorgeous classic, A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square, Cole Porter's Miss Otis Regrets and other gems from that era to the Birdland stage.

Birdland Jazz Club is located between Eighth and Ninth Avenues at 315 West 44th Street. There is a $25 cover charge and a $10 food/drink minimum.  Tickets can be purchased at birdlandjazz.com or by calling 212-581-3080.
