Natalie Charle Ellis and F. Michael Haynie Headline Madame's Soiree Tonight
![]()
Cabaret patroness Madame Mathieu has selected Natalie Charle Ellis (School of Rock, Les Miserables), and F. Michael Haynie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wicked) as guests of honor at the January 18th edition of the Bistro Awards Critics' Pick Madame Mathieu's Soiree. The duo will perform alongside a distinguished group of artists from a variety of disciplines in the first edition of Season 3 of the show. The winners of the first ever Denovan Residencies, the most comprehensive development grants in New York cabaret, will be announced at the event.
The Soiree will be held at The Duplex Cabaret Theater tonight, January 18 at 9:30pm. Described by critic Gerry Geddes as "an Ed Sullivan Show for a new generation", this "variety show with an avant garde twist" is as unpredictable as the patroness herself. Each eclectic evening features a group of rising stars in stand-up, poetry, dance, songwriting, and performance art while the Broadway guests accept creative dares that arise from Mme. M's insane imagination. The evening concludes with a party in the outer bar, because the only thing more interesting that Madame's show is her audience.
Hosted by five-time MAC Award nominee Drew Fornarola (off-Broadway's STRAIGHT) and directed by Tyler Spicer, the Soiree will feature storyteller Mary Theresa Archbold, magician Patrick Swailes Caldwell, performance artist Nathalie Ellis-Einhorn, poet Tom March, and concert pianist Adam Rothenberg, in addition to Ellis and Haynie. This is the lucky 13th edition of the show, which has already featured over 150 individual artists and 30 Broadway guests. It is also the first that will include the Denovan Residents. Chosen from 65 applicants, the 2 winners will each receive a 6 month residency at The Duplex to develop their show, performance slots at 3 soirees, and a $2,000 grant to help with their expenses.
The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located at 61 Christopher Street. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. There is a two-drink minimum. For tickets please call 212-989-3015, or visit https://www.purplepass.com/#165333 or www.theduplex.com
