Birdland Jazz Club has announced its schedule for June 1 - June 7, featuring Maria Schneider Orchestra, Lindsay Mendez, Barbara Carroll, and more!

June 1 (Monday) at 7:00PM
Singer Trevor McQueen Returns to Birdland

The Broadway at Birdland is proud to announce the return of singer Trevor McQueen to the stage. After several sold out shows, McQueen brings his soulful vocal sensibility to the historic music room with songs by Stevie Wonder, Stephen Sondheim, Donny Hathaway, and several originals. The concert will feature Angelo Di Loreto on piano, Jeff Koch on bass and Philippe Lemm on drums. Trevor McQueen is a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and made his Broadway debut as Little Jake in the revival of Annie Get Your Gun. He is a frequent headliner at Birdland in NYC, having appeared as the front man of a 17-piece big band. Trevor's love of music began at a very young age, while listening to Benny Goodman records in his neighbor's living room.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Schneider's music blurs the lines between genres, and as a result, her long list of commissioners have become quite varied, stretching from the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, Monterey Jazz Festival, The American Dance Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, Peter Sellars' New Crowned Hope Festival in Vienna, Kronos Quartet, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Ojai Music Festival, to collaborating with David Bowie. Schneider and her orchestra have a distinguished recording career with ten Grammy nominations and three Grammy awards, spanning both jazz and classical categories.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Lindsay Mendez & Marco Paguia Return to Birdland

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Lindsay Mendez and pianist/bandleader Marco Paguia make their exciting return to Birdland on Sunday, June 7 at 6pm. Lindsay Mendez and Marco Paguia met in 2010, and discovered a mutual love and passion for jazz. Lindsay and Marco draw from an eclectic mix of music, reimagining songs from popular music in the familiar setting of a jazz piano trio and vocalist. Their vast catalogue is comprised of the singers and songwriters that inspire them, including Alexi Murdoch, Alicia Keys, The Beatles, Feist, Fiona Apple, Gladys Knight, Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Martin Sexton, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, The Police, Stevie Wonder, and U2. Their debut album, "This Time," was released in 2013 and is available on their website www.LMandMP.com, iTunes and other digital retailers. The duo made their Lincoln Center debut as part of the American Songbook series last season. For this special engagement at Birdland, Lindsay & Marco will be featuring an expanded lineup, including a four-piece horn section. The show will feature Lindsay Mendez on vocals, Marco Paguia on piano, Greg Chudzik on bass, Tommy Crane on drums, Curtis Macdonald on alto saxophone, Kyle Wilson on tenor saxophone, Kenny Warren on trumpet, and Marshall Gilkes on trombone.

Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
