Frank Shiner Returning to 54 Below, 9/4

By:

54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Frank Shiner in The Real Me Live Show on September 4th, 7pm. Shiner makes his third triumphant return to the stage where the second phase of a remarkable career took flight. The show, which has sold-out 6 previous performances, is based on his best-selling debut album, The Real Me which was named Best CD by a Male Artist from the LA Critic Music Awards while landing two consecutive Top 5 Adult Contemporary chart hits, "Feels Like Home," written by Randy Newman and The title track written by Doc Pomus and Dr. John. NPR said of the show, "Frank Shiner sings these songs as if he wrote them. He sings with a maturity and a truth that comes from living and loving, deeply and fully." Lynne Volkman, famed long-time publicist of Whitney Houston said, "Frank Shiner has one of those voices, the kind you love right away, the kind of voice that allows him to sing in any genre...it knocked me out in a good way," and Bloomberg Radio commented "His performances at New York's best nightclubs have critics wearing out their thesauruses to find new superlatives." Shiner's all-star band includes Mark Palmer (Music Director/keyboards) and Anthea White (background vocals) both of The Hipstones, famed saxophonist Jay Rodriguez, Matsu (drummer), Chris Goercke (guitar) and David Cutler (bass).

Frank Shiner in The Real Me Live Show plays 54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on September 4th at 7pm. There is a $30.00-$40.00 cover charge and $25.00 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.

MORE ABOUT Frank Shiner

The arc of Frank Shiner's musical artistry swings in that special place where his lifetime of experiences in singing and acting are able to breathe together and tell a story. "As a student of Shakespeare," Shiner explains, "as a student of language, the song is a play, and the lyric is the most important thing to me. If a pretty sound comes out after that, it's a bonus, never the goal." The Real Me, Frank Shiner's aptly titled debut album on Bakerson Records (distributed through Universal) has been recognized for its "elegant blues" style. It concentrates on a new breed of standards, from the "deliciously jazzy" simplicity of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue," to the "cool, sexy" rhythms of Tom Waits' "Temptation." Taken together, the songs each describe chapters in Shiner's thirty year love affair with his wife Suzanne. A cancer survivor, her illness led Shiner to rekindle his career which he had abandoned twenty years before, when he set out on a successful business career to support his family. Recording these near-biographical songs with producer Gary Katz was the realization of a dream that only resurfaced three years ago in 2010. Katz, best known for his work with Steely Dan, has also produced for Diana Ross, Laura Nyro, Joe Cocker, and others
