Elaine St. George to Bring Steve Goodman Tribute to Don't Tell Mama, 1/29
By: Tyler Peterson
Steve Goodman, the Chicago-born folk music singer-songwriter whose promising career was cut short in 1984, is brought to life by Elaine St. George, in a loving and irreverent tribute that begins an extended run at Don't Tell Mama, 343 West 46th Street, on Wednesday January 29 at 7:30pm.
Lavishing big-hearted attention on this influential if underrated troubadour of the American scene, St. George, the 2013 MAC Hanson Award-winner, reunites with her 2012 Joni Mitchell trio to create a unique, cross-border sound. Her band mates include music director Ross Patterson on piano, Adam Armstrong on bass and Karen Waltuch on viola.
St. George's four-show/four-month run begins on Wednesday January 29 at 7pm, skips the tracks in February, and continues on Tuesday March 4; Wednesday March 26, and Wednesday April 30. All shows are at 7:30pm. The author of "City of New Orleans" (made famous by Arlo Guthrie and later by Willie Nelson); "Banana Republics" and "Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline Street" (recorded by Jimmy Buffett), Goodman also penned numerous Chicago Cubs-inspired songs, including "Go, Cubs, Go" which is played after Cubs home wins, whenever those may be.
