After taking a few weeks off during the Olympics, "So You Think You Can Dance" returned last night to whittle down the remaining 14 dancers to establish the Season 9 Top 10 who will start dancing with the yet-to-be-announced All-Stars in next week's show. Last night's episode also marked the first time the competition series had devoted an entire episode to honoring the work of one choreographer, Mia Michaels, and the feedback from the judges on the performances by the dancers was mixed, at best.

Futoncritic's Jim Halterman was at last night's taping and grabbed time with SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE alum Adam Shankman, who was in the audience for the show. Check out Shankman's critique of the remaining top contenders here!

Shankman's most recent work was the adaptation of the groundbreaking hit Broadway rock musical "Rock of Ages," which was released in June. In  2007, Shankman directed and executive produced "Hairspray," the feature film adaptation of the Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical. It received three Golden Globe® nominations including Best Picture-Musical or Comedy. In addition, the cast won a Critics' Choice Award for Best Acting Ensemble.

Shankman began his directing career in 2001 with his debut feature, "The Wedding Planner." The next year, he directed the romantic drama "A Walk to Remember." Shankman followed with "Bringing Down the House," "The Pacifier," and "Cheaper by the Dozen 2." Shankman's recent films include the box-office hits "17 Again," which he produced, and "Bedtime Stories," which he directed.
