Universal Acquires Seth MacFarlane's R-Rated Teddy Bear Comedy 'TED'

According to a report on Deadline.com, Universal Pictures has acquired Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" - an R-rated comedy budgeted at $65 million. MacFarlane will make is feature film directorial debut with the movie.

The film, which features a mix of live action and computer-generated footage, is described as "a "Hard R" comedy about a man and his teddy bear."

"Ted" features a screenplay by MacFarlane and fellow "Family Guy" scribes Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. MacFarlane will produce the film with Media Rights Capital, Scott Stuber and John Jacobs.

Deadline.com adds that the intention is to get the film into production this year. No word yet on a premiere date.

One of the youngest people ever to create a television series, Seth MacFarlane is the creator/executive producer/voice actor on FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD and THE CLEVELAND SHOW. In 2009, FAMILY GUY received an Emmy nomination making it the second animated series ever to be nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Previously, FAMILY GUY garnered three nominations for Outstanding Animated Series.
