The new, all-star limited-engagement Broadway run of A. R. Gurney's beloved two-hander, Love Letters about the times in which people shared their intimate thoughts in letters, brings actor Brian Dennehy and the playwright to THEATER TALK, offering their views on the continuing popularity of the piece - written in 1988 and performed world-wide ever since.

Tony-winner Dennehy (Death of A Salesman), who opened the revival of Love Letters with Mia Farrow in September and is now playing opposite Carol Burnett, talks about the play's unique power, particularly with its two characters simply sitting at a table, reading letters while facing the audience. He also remembers his early years when he was trying to break into the theatre business while delivering meat for a living. Gurney, author of The Dining Room and some 50 other plays, also reminisces with anecdotes about his formative years as a writer. In addition the duo share memories of formative stage artists and productions that inspired their careers.

The current production of Love Letters is directed by Gregory Mosher. It will feature new pairings of actors each month during its run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, including Alan Alda and Candice Bergen, Stacy Keach and Diana Rigg, plus Anjelica Huston and Martin Sheen.
