SWAMP Seeks Support For Long-Running Houston Short Film Series THE TERRITORY

Since 1977, the PBS series THE TERRITORY has exposed Houstonians to independent short films from around the globe. "There have been many notable filmmakers who have had short films featured on the series, including Robert Rodriguez, Jane Campion, Gus Van Sant, David Lowery," says Michelle Mower. The filmmaker works with the Southwest Alternate Media Project, SWAMP, to produce the time-honored program.

Now, she and SWAMP want the television show to expand, to broadcast nationally, so they've launched a Kickstarter campaign to reach their goal. "[The series] gives Houston a platform to showcase our local talent to a broad audience," says Mower. "We want to help their films be seen by as many people as possible."

As an incentive to donors, SWAMP offers "experiential rewards like Being A PA [production assistant] for a day, a walk on role in an upcoming short, skyping with directors, [and] VIP tickets to LAST NIGHT AT THE ALAMO," says Mower.

"We are working on building a strong film culture in our city," says the filmmaker. And "having a quality series like THE TERRITORY available to Houston viewers will help grow our local film community and build our city's reputation within the larger film industry."
