John Logan is the author of RED, for which he won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play; his other plays include NEVER THE SINNER, HAUPTMANN, and RIVERVIEW. His screenplays include 'Sweeney Todd,' 'The Aviator,' 'The Time Machine,' and 'Gladiator'.
Next up for Logan is a big screen adaptation of Patti Smith's 'Just Kids,' the 2010 bestselling memoir.
The book tells of Smith's life in New York during the 1970s, following her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Smith won the National Book Award for the memoir.
She also co-wrote the play "Cowboy Mouth" with Sam Shepard and has recorded numerous albums over the years including "Horses," "Gung Ho," and "The Coral Sea."
There's currently no Production Company or distributor attached to the project; according to Deadline.com, Smith and Logan made the decision to take the project on spec.
