LOST's Naveen Andrews Joins ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND

By:

According to Entertainment Weekly, Naveen Andrews (Lost) has joined ABC's spin-off Once Upon A Time In Wonderland as "Jafar" -- the villain from Disney's Aladdin. The news was revealed during a surprise appearance by the star at today's panel at Comic-Con in San Diego.

"I'm proud and thrilled to be back with ABC on an exciting and unique new show," Andrews told EW. "This role will be a real departure from any animated version because of the layered emotions and complexities involved in making him a real three-dimensional character."

Fans also got to meet Sophie Lowe, Michael Socha, Peter Gadiot and Emma Rigby from "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" at the Comic-Con panel.

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland will debut on ABC at 8 p.m. on October 10. ABC recently increased the series' episode count from 13, to somewhere between there and 22.

The OUAT spin-off was billed as a limited series, which hasn't changed. EW notes that the series' plot is entirely self-contained in the first season - creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have the entire story planned out, and these additional episodes were ordered to tell it as originally planned.

In "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland," Alice (Sophie Lowe) in Victorian England tells the story of a strange new land that exists-where else?-on the other side of a rabbit hole where you can find an invisible cat, a hookah-smoking caterpillar and playing cards that can talk. Doctors think she's crazy and try to "cure" her with a treatment to forget it all.

While she may be ready to forget it all, put everything, including the genie she loved and lost, Cyrus (Peter Gadiot), she knows it's all real, and she is saved just in time by the sardonic Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) and irrepressible White Rabbit (John Lithgow). They then head down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, where nothing is impossible.

Andrews played "Sayid" for seven seasons Lost on ABC. He has also appeared in Syfy's Sinbad and was cast in the ABC pilot Reckless earlier this year.
