According to Deadline, Disney has tapped David Lowery to helm a live-action take on the beloved tale of PETER PAN. Toby Halbrooks will co-write the script, based upon the studio's 1953 animated film.

Lowery most recently wrote and directed the studio's remake of the 1977 classic PETE'S DRAGON, scheduled to hit theaters on August 12, 2016.

Disney's update is the latest to tackle J.M. Barrie's story of the boy who never grew up. Warner Bros. released PAN last year, starring Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara, which opened to a lower-than-expected box office and lukewarm reviews.

PETER PAN is another addition to Disney's slate of live-action remakes, which now includes the likes of MALEFICENT, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, THE JUNGLE BOOK, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and more.
