We are half way through the First Day of Camp in Waterville and the drama has only just begun to unfold. But can anything really prepare us for the premiere of the coveted musical; Electro/City? They've been in rehearsal for nearly four hours!

Episode Five - Dinner

As rehearsals are winding down for the evening performance of Electro/CIty, Claude and Susie are getting closer. They wind up having dinner together and sleeping together so Susie can further her career. Ben and McKinley are having a blast rehearsing their big number, "Zoot Suit" and Katie and Andy are trying to nail down the coveted "lift" in their dance sequence. When Andy nearly bows to the pressure, he is lured back in by Susie's inspirational speech about what theatre is!

Beth and Greg enlist the help of Attorney Jim Stansel, to bring down Zen Star and eventually the government. Nervous before the trial, Beth and Greg wind up sleeping together in the hotel room that they rented before the trial that is taking place in a few minutes. Yes, we are still in the same day.

Coop is becoming more and more uncomfortable with Donna's friendship with Yaron. Donna keeps dressing Coop more and more preposterously and Yaron keeps suggesting a threesome.

Lindsay forces J.J. to go with her to Eric's cabin to where she finally meets the former rock star. But he immediately kicks her out of his cabin.

Victor and Neil think it will be hilarious to prank call Jonas in the kitchen, not knowing that he has lost his mind. Jonas figures out it is Victor and skips, literally, to find him and kill him. Gary is able to distract Jonas by reminding him that it is time for him to marry Gail. He arrives at the ceremony and confesses his identity to Gail. Jeff, the Records Clerk, shows up and confesses his love for Gail. She decides to choose Jeff and marry him instead. Jonas accepts this and goes back to the kitchen... and becomes Gene!

Episode Six - Electro/City

The musical is about to begin and the nerves are a plenty. Andy and Katie get into a big fight before the show and wind up taking it out on each other on stage. However, in the magic of the moment, they kiss and everything comes together. They complete the lift to everyone's amazement and Electro/City is a hit! McKinley and Ben's number is a also a showstopper and when it's over, they kiss. Claude offers Susie a position in New York working for him. She turns it down as she knows she belongs at Camp Firewood, and also she is 17 and shouldn't be sleeping with Claude. She and Ben decide to confess to each other that they cheated and both are surprised at each other's revelations. Ben is ecstatic to be in love with McKinley, while dear sweet Susie looks a tad bit heartbroken that both Ben and Claude have gone. Damn you, Amy Poehler and those soul-filled eyes.

Gail and Jeff run into Gene and he wishes them well. They then decide to divorce, but consummate the marriage anyway.

Blake at Camp Tiger Claw witnesses Andy and Katie's kiss through binoculars and realize she is not coming to the Formal. He grabs Courtney and angrily Fox Trots with her. Filled with rage, he gathers up the campers and tells them it is time to storm Camp Firewood.

Eric comes and finds Lindsay and lets her listen to the secret recordings. After some serious makeout sessions, she helps him make a breakthrough on a song before disappearing into the night.

At the trial, Greg and Beth convince Jim not to give in to the Zen Star lawyers. Steve arrives with a last bit of evidence and Zen Star is convicted on all charges including cleanup at the camp. The Zen Star lawyer informs the government as to what has happened and they activate "The Falcon." At the press conference, The Falcon assassinates Attorney Jim Stansel and Greg!

I cannot convey how deeply I want to direct Electro/City. It has the potential to be amazing. Although I'm still trying to figure out where the "Zoot Suit" number figures into the plot. Regardless, it is a gem filled with musical dynamos. Only two more installments of First Day of Camp. It can't be over already, can it?

Moment That Can't Be Missed:

  • Jonas chasing Victor, if only for Christopher Meloni's running.

New Faces:

  • Michael Cera as the camp's lawyer, Jim Stansel

  • Bruce Greenwood as Zen Star's lawyer, Bill Martinson

Epic Paul Rudd Moments:

  • Andy's walkout and dramatic pause before deciding against it.

  • Inexplicably dumping a camper's chicken nuggets on the floor.

  • Andy's confrontation about Katie's mindset pre-show.

  • Andy in, well, every musical number in Electro/City

All episodes are currently streaming on Netflix.
