Ukulele Player Jake Shimabukuro to Play Gallo Center, 10/29

Hawaii's Jake Shimabukuro, who in his young career has already redefined a heretofore under-the-radar instrument, been declared a musical "hero" by Rolling Stone, wowed audiences on TV (Jimmy Kimmel, Conan), and earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, will perform in concert at the Gallo Center at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 29.

Tickets for the event range in price from $19 to $59, and may be purchased online at www.galloarts.org, by calling (209) 338-2100, or from the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto.

Shimabukuro's mastery of the ukulele prompted Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam to declare, "He is taking the instrument to a place that I can't see anybody else catching up with."

The musician's popularity has soared over the last few years. Shimabukuro has more than 12 million followers on Facebook. This concert will feature some of his most popular songs, among them "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," plus selections from his latest album, "Grand Ukulele," a collaboration with legendary producer Alan Parsons, best known for his work on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and The Beatles' "Abbey Road."
