The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Announces 2019 Dates for 38th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center announces the 2019 dates for the 38th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio. The first and longest-running Conjunto festival in the country will be held May 15-19, 2019, in the historic Guadalupe Theater and Rosedale Park on the city's Westside. The festival continues the cultural tradition of this uniquely South Texas musical genre by featuring over 30 of the best, most-popular, and emerging bands from across the state, country and the world. An art contest, call for literature, Seniors Dance, and a special Hall of Fame inauguration round out the popular festival.

This year's poster contest invites visual artists, graphic designers, and art students to create an entry in the Middle School, High School, College or Open categories. Each category's Top Selection receives a cash award of $100 followed by an Honorable Mention prize of $50. The Overall Winner receives an increased cash prize this year of $1,500. The overall winning image is used as the primary marketing image for the festival and will appear on promotional materials including event listings, website, social media, poster, t-shirt, and other related merchandise. The deadline for submission via the Guadalupe website is January 31, 2019, at 5:00pm CST.

The festival also includes a commemorative magazine, Tonantzin, where a call is issued for original works of literature on Conjunto music for possible publication. Literature submissions can include scholarly articles, short stories, poetry, essays, interviews with Conjunto artists, or any other written work that incorporates some aspect of Conjunto music. Entries of any length, in English, Spanish, or bilingual, are accepted through March 29, 2019, at 5:00pm CST.

Band submissions are also accepted in the fall for consideration. Conjunto and Tejano bands from around the world are encouraged to send in their contact information, videos, bios, photos via the website. Bands are chosen based on several factors that strive to create a strong showcase of legendary performers, geographical representation, female performers, emerging talent, youth and students.
