THE BENGSONS CD RELEASE SHOW
Fri, Feb 25, 9 pm, $10 adv / $12 door

Husband-and-wife duo The Bengsons, made up of Abigail Nessen Bengson and Shaun McClain Bengson, bring their vaudevillian indie folk to 92YTribeca for the CD release party for their new album, The Proof. The duo are rising stars in the NYC experimental music and theater community, having performed original shows, performance pieces and original musicals across the country and around the world.

Described by The New York Times as "not only a tremendous musical talent, but [possessing] a raw honesty, a sincere righteousness," The Bengsons' songs blend rousing, all-join-hands group choruses with spry vocal melodies and rich instrumentation that incorporates everything from banjo to accordion to church organ. At 92YTribeca they are joined by a host of special guests, and the performance will boast a state-of-the-art video projection and design by Andrew Lazarow (co-founder of Seattle's Satori Group) and direction by Williams College's David Eppel (co-founder of South Africa's Market Theater).

The Begnsons' original musicals, Ain't That Good News and The Magic Show: The Story of the Barefoot Angels, have garnered accolades at many venues, including Culture Project's Women Center Stage, MASS MoCA, terraNOVA Collective's soloNOVA Arts Festival at The Daryl Roth Theater and more. Abigail premiered her first one-woman show, Anthem, at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in 2004, and went on to perform original solo works with the Royal Shakespeare Company, New York Hip-Hop Theater Festival and the Apollo New Works Festival. She has also appeared to critical acclaim in several off-Broadway musicals, including BUSH WARS: A Musical Revenge.
