Luba Mason to Headline Europe's Bratislava Jazz Festival This Month

Recording artist and Broadway actress Luba Mason (Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde, over half a dozen Broadway shows) is set to headline the final night of the Bratislava Jazz Days Festival in Slovakia, performing on Sunday, October 23 at 8:30pm. Held annually since 1975 on the riverbank of the Danube, this popular international festival hosts performers and composers from Europe and the United States.

This summer, Luba released her third album, MIXTURA, and last year she co-starred in the hit Off-Broadway musical Pretty Filthy and was nominated for the prestigious 2015 DRAMA DESK and LUCILLE LORTEL theater awards as "Best Featured Actress in a Musical". The Pretty Filthy Original Cast Recording was also recently released.

"A Broadway veteran and omnivorous singer" (Billboard), straight out of school, Luba was plucked by Tommy Tune to sing and dance on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning The Will Rogers Follies & has also appeared on Broadway in: Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde, Paul Simon's The Capeman, How to Succeed in Business opposite Matthew Broderick, Sid Caesar & Company opposite Sid Caesar & Late Nite Comic.

Her third album, MIXTURA, features a new musical format she has trademarked (MIXTURA®): "a blend of different musical currents". The record was produced by Jimmy Haslip & Ms. Mason with guests Al Jarreau, Randy Brecker, Dori Caymmi, Kenny Loggins, Vadim Neselovskyi and others. The CD was released by Kobalt Music. Her first two albums were COLLAGE (PS Classics), a beautiful marriage of Latin, pop, jazz and poetry; and KRAZY LOVE, (Sunnyside Records), a Brazilian Jazz album where Luba debuted her impressive song writing skills featuring the legendary Hubert Laws and her husband 14-time Grammy Award-winner Rubén Blades.

A native New Yorker born in Astoria, Queens and first generation American of Slovak descent, Luba grew up in a bi-lingual household, Slovak being her first language. She started classical piano at age 5 and continued for 12 more years while singing in several church choirs prompted by her piano teacher after discovering her talent for singing at the end of a piano lesson. Becoming ever more interested in singing, Luba began to study voice with teachers from The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music. Luba was later accepted to Circle in the Square Theatre School and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama.
