Since Yael Shoshana Cohen and Gil Landau formed Lola Marsh just a few years ago, the Tel Aviv-based indie pop band has experienced a remarkable-and distinctly 21st Century-rise. On the strength of performances including a breakout set at 2014's Primavera Sound festival and two digital singles that were viral successes in 2015, they have toured successfully and garnered international acclaim well before recording their debut album. Today, in advance of that album, which they plan to complete later this year, they release an EP, You're Mine, via Anova Music. Earlier this month, the band released the video of a prestigious La Blogothèque session that showcases their live sound.

The You're Mine EP perfectly reveals Lola Marsh's sound, which is at once intimate and cinematic, drawing upon diverse influences including Spaghetti Westerns, Elvis, Edith Piaf, Sufjan Stevens, and the Indonesian and Japanese melodies Yael discovered in her parents' record collection when she was a child. In addition to their beloved singles "You're Mine" and "Sirens," the recording-produced by Gil at Anova Studios and his own home studio-includes two new tracks: "Days to Come" and "In Good Times."

As seamless as Lola Marsh's sound is, the band formed serendipitously. Yael met Gil a few years back when her friend brought her to Gil's birthday party. She had studied at Israel's prestigious Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, having played music and danced since childhood, but had grown disenchanted with music and was considering a career in fashion or photography. Gil was a lifelong musician, too, who had learned guitar and piano at the age of 6, studied theater in high school and gone on to study sound and production. At the party, the guests started playing and singing together informally. Gil heard Yael sing and suggested they do something together. They arranged to meet again, started writing songs together, and soon were playing shows around Tel Aviv as a duo called Lola Marsh. After a year together, they sought other musicians to expand their sound and soon added bassist Mati Gilad, guitarist and keyboard player Rami Osservaser and drummer Dekel Dvir to the band's lineup.

Lola Marsh gave a much-discussed performance at Primavera Sound in 2014 that the influential L.A. radio station KCRW called "incredible," adding that Yael was "clearly meant for the stage." "Sirens," their first single, debuted in March 2015; it quickly received a million streams and reached #5 on Spotify's list of the Top 10 Most Viral Tracks in U.S. Their second single, "You're Mine," garnered two millions plays on Spotify and landed in the service's top 3 Most Viral Tracks as well as in the top 3 of Hype Machine's Most Popular Tracks ranking.

Yael and Gil's path as Lola Marsh has already taken them much further than they ever imagined going together. And yet, this is only the beginning.
