ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the world leader in performing rights and advocacy for music creators, today announced that superstar singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson has renewed her agreement with the Society. ASCAP will continue to license public performances of her extensive songwriting catalog throughout the world.

Since exploding into the public eye as the winner of American Idol's first season in 2002, Kelly Clarkson has become one of the most consistently successful singer-songwriters in popular music. She has released 11 international #1 singles, including the US chart-toppers "Before Your Love," "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." Clarkson has also made her mark as a songwriter, with co-writing credit on many of her biggest hits - including "Because of You" (named ASCAP's 2007 Pop Song of the Year), "Miss Independent" and "Walk Away." Her seven studio albums have each hit the top three in the US, and have collectively sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

Clarkson is equally at home belting out pop ballads ("Breakaway") and rock songs ("Since U Been Gone"), country duets ("Don't You Wanna Stay" with Jason Aldean) and holiday favorites (the platinum-selling Wrapped in Red album). She has consistently broken records and earned accolades in multiple genres, including three Grammys, 12 Billboard Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards and four American Music Awards.

On October 4th, Clarkson will release her first children's book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, featuring an original lullaby that she wrote. She is currently planning a new album for release on Atlantic Records in 2017.

"Kelly Clarkson is the total package," said ASCAP EVP of Membership John Titta. "She's an incredible songwriter, a powerhouse vocalist and a creator who constantly seeks to push her artistry into new territory. Radio listeners love her and we are thrilled to represent her music worldwide. We can't wait to hear what comes next."

Clarkson's relationship with ASCAP stretches back to the beginnings of her music career, when the head of ASCAP's Nashville office, Connie Bradley, recognized her talent and signed her to the Society in 2003. Later that same year Clarkson's debut album Thankful entered the charts at #1.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers of every kind of music. ASCAP's mission is to license and promote the music of its members and foreign affiliates, obtain fair compensation for the public performance of their works and to distribute the royalties that it collects based upon those performances. ASCAP members write the world's best-loved music and ASCAP has pioneered the efficient licensing of that music to hundreds of thousands of enterprises who use it to add value to their business - from bars, restaurants and retail, to radio, TV and cable, to Internet, mobile services and more. The ASCAP license offers an efficient solution for businesses to legally perform ASCAP music while respecting the right of songwriters and composers to be paid fairly. With 585,000 members representing more than 10 million copyrighted works, ASCAP is the worldwide leader in performance royalties, service and advocacy for songwriters and composers, and the only American performing rights organization (PRO) owned and governed by its writer and publisher members.
