Judy Collins Concert & Induction Set for Colorado Music Hall of Fame

By:

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame will host an evening with folk music legend Judy Collins that will include a full concert and her induction into the esteemed organization on Friday, November 8, 7:30pm at Denver's historic Paramount Theater. Tickets go on sale this Friday (6/28) at 10 a.m. at Tickethorse.com or by phone at 866-461-6556.

Collins' Rocky Mountain roots run deep. She debuted with the Denver Businessmen's Orchestra when she was just barely a teenager, having been taught classical piano by the great Antonia Brico. She switched to guitar, and after graduating from East High School circa 1959, started out in Boulder at Michael's Pub and played the coffeehouses of the era, earning renown on the biggest folk stage in Denver, the Exodus.

She moved to Greenwich Village to make her mark. Debuting in 1961 on the Elektra label (several months before Bob Dylan's first release), her first records included Dylan and Eric Andersen covers. The Wildflowers LP yielded a big hit with Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." Collins' piercing blue eyes inspired Stephen Stills to write the CSN smash "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes." Other signature songs include her a cappella reading of "Amazing Grace" and her haunting 1975 Grammy award winner "Send in the Clowns" from the Broadway play A Little Night Music.

Other inductees in this CMHOF "folk" class will include the Serendipity Singers (nine CU students who scored two Top 30 hits in the early '60s, "Don't Let the Rain Come Down" and "Beans in my Ears"), Bob Lind (a kid from Aurora whose hit "Elusive Butterfly" is still played on oldies radio) and Chris Daniels, a pillar of Colorado's music community.

The evening will also feature a video tribute to Denver's folk scene of the late 1950s and 1960s, interviews with the inductees, celebrity speeches and performances featuring inductees and guest members of popular Colorado bands. The pre-concert gala (a meet-and-greet with Judy) will also include a historic array of exhibits and archival photographs, to be relocated in the CMHOF.

"The mission of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization, is to honor those individuals who have made outstanding contributions, to preserve and protect historical artifacts, and to educate the public regarding everything that's great about our state's music," says Chuck Morris, CHMOF's chairman. Previous inductees include John Denver and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Harry Tuft of the Denver Folklore Center and promoter Barry Fey of Family Dog fame, and the Astronauts, Sugarloaf, Flash Cadillac and KIMN radio.

Reserved seats and premium CMHOF tickets with pre-show meet and greet available at www.TicketHorse.com. More information www.cmhof.org
