ECLECTIC BANDS to Bring New Works to Shrine in Harlem
The free concert at Shrine World Music Venue will include the 15 Minutes of Fame Duo and the Gene Pritsker Trio.
Composers Concordance will present 'Eclectic Bands' on Thursday, September 17th at 7pm at Shrine World Music Venue, 2271 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, NYC. The concert is a free event.
The performance brings the boundless energy of contemporary music to Shrine in Harlem, featuring a kaleidoscope of premiering works from nearly twenty composers, and spotlights a collaboration with Robert Voisey and his advocacy organization Vox Novus.
The evening features the rapid-fire intensity of the 15 Minutes of Fame Duo (Oren Fader on guitar and Adeline DeBella on flute) — a direct presentation of Vox Novus's signature initiative that packs fifteen distinct, one-minute miniature masterpieces into a single set — alongside the fierce rhythmic driving pulse of the Gene Pritsker Trio, featuring Gene Pritsker on guitar, Matt Zebroski on drums, and Freddy Cash Jr. on bass, and the expansive fusion soundscapes of the Dan Cooper Quartet, featuring Dan Cooper on bass, Evan Francis on flute and tenor saxophone, Yayoi Ikawa on keyboard, and Rex Benincasa on drums.
This eclectic showcase embodies the overarching legacy and mission of Composers Concordance, which has spent more than four decades pushing the boundaries of sound alongside like-minded allies in the avant-garde community. Established in 1984, the organization has dedicated itself to breaking the bubble of classical pretension by treating every composition under a rule of 'all of the above' — fusing contemporary classical music with jazz, electronics, and groove-driven experimentation. By partnering with Robert Voisey's Vox Novus, a fellow grassroots organization dedicated to giving a global voice to living composers through innovative presentation practices, this concert highlights a shared commitment to artistic democratization. Offering a free performance at Shrine World Music Venue, co-directors Gene Pritsker and Dan Cooper continue their 43-year history of keeping adventurous new music accessible and cementing the living composer as a respected, vital force in modern society.
The concert will also be live-streamed on Composers Concordance's Facebook page.

Staying in rotation for 43 years in NYC is a rare feat. In the case of a new music presenting organization, it requires not only diligence and cognizance of achievements of the past but also an ethic of keeping one's ear to the ground for emerging stylistic and technological developments, as well as talented new composers on the scene. Composers Concordance, founded in 1984 by Joseph Pehrson and Patrick Hardish, advised by Otto Luening, strives to present contemporary music in innovative ways, with an emphasis on thematic programming. Directors Gene Pritsker and Dan Cooper co-curate the programs and lead the CompCord Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, String Orchestra, and Big Band. Associate Directors are Milica Paranosic, Peter Jarvis, Debra Kaye, Seth Boustead, and Audrey Morse. Composers Concordance has also created a Naxos-distributed record label: Composers Concordance Records. Composers Concordance's overriding vision is to promote contemporary music, composers, and new works as a rightful and respected part of society.
