BWW Review: Tori Kelly Spills Her Heart In Vulnerable Single 'Change Your Mind'
Who else is relieved that one of the best vocalists out there is back? Tori Kelly took a short absence from the pop music world to release her gospel record Hiding Place last September which reached number 1 on Billboard's US top gospel album charts.
The singer/songwriter dropped the vulnerable, lead single "Change Your Mind" which helms from her forthcoming pop record due this year.
She penned the track with Jimmy Napes who is best known for co-writing the Sam Smith hit "Stay With Me".
Kelly sings on the acoustic, R&B influenced track about how her father refuses to give her now husband Andre Murillo his blessing. It hits you right in the gut, despite the upbeat tempo.
"No one ever said it was easy/ and I love him/ you gotta believe me/ no, it don't seem right/ but I'll change your mind, mind," she sings in the chorus. Imagine your parents not being accepting of your significant other. The songstress has a knack for making you feel less alone in a world full of stress and worries.
I absolutely love how raw her vocals are in the track. You can hear how much soul she put into it. The instrumentation isn't too overpowering either.
Kelly is up for 2 Grammys: 'Best Gospel Performance/Song for "Never Alone"' and "Best Gospel Album for Hiding Place". There is no doubt that she has these awards in the bag. The record and song really hit deep. I'm not going to lie, I cry every time listening to it. The Grammy Awards air on February 10 at 8PM EST/ 5PM PST on CBS.
She's set to go on a 26-date acoustic tour where she'll be playing fan favorites and new songs starting February 25 in Tucson, AZ. Find all the dates and purchase tickets here.
