The Alexandra Grimal Quartet plays tonight, 9/29, at 8:30 PM at the Cornelia Street Café. The Café is located at 29 Cornelia Street, NYC, New York.

The quartet is made up of Alexandra Grimal on tenor and soprano saxophone, Thomas Morgan on bass, Todd Neufeld on guitar and Marcus Gilmore on drums. They the music of Alexandra Grimal who's compositions are long and short structures, based on complex harmony and poly-rhythm. They explore very structured improvisations as well as open forms.

Born in Cairo in 1980, Alexandra Grimal started music at the age of 5 with classical piano. At 13, in Paris, she was introduced to the saxophone. She received her master's degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in 2005 under the direction of John Ruocco. She has also been a student in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris (CNSM) and in the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki with the Socrates Exchange Programme.
