Adam Davenport & Shanica Knowles Deliver Top 50 Dance Hit on Billboard

By: Aug. 16, 2017

Adam Davenport and Shanica Knowles' "My Return Address is You" Delivers Top 50 on Billboard Dance Club Chart. The breakout single "My Return Address is You" from Brooklyn-based multi-hyphenate Adam Davenport has landed on the Top 50 of the Billboard Dance Club Chart. With its first week on the chart, the song is currently #44 for the week of August 26th. "My Return Address is You," released by Independent Ear through SRG-ILS/Universal Music Group, makes the third highest debut on the Top 50 this week and is in good company on the chart alongside Rihanna's "Pose," Zedd & Liam Payne's "Get Low," Ed Sheeran's "Castle On The Hill" and Alan Walker featuring Gavin James'"Tired."

Davenport is one of the few LGBT black artists to chart on Billboard. Frank Ocean previously accomplished this feat; most recently, his single "Chanel" charted at #72 on Billboard's Hot 100 in April and "Slide," his feature collaboration with Calvin Harris & Migos, peaked at #25 on the Billboard Dance Club Chart in May.

The Billboard Dance Club chart is compiled exclusively from playlists submitted by nightclub disc jockeys who have met certain criteria to become Billboard-reporting DJs. "My Return Address is You" transcends genres, sitting comfortably between radio-friendly EDM, indie pop and throwback house track for peak hour club play.

The newly minted summer dance hit is the debut single from Davenport, a Yale graduate who is also a filmmaker and actor (High Maintenance on HBO, the upcoming feature Project Olympus). He collaborated on the song with Leslie Mills, an Emmy-nominated songwriter based in Nashville. The powerful vocals are performed by Shanica Knowles, best known for her recurring role as the rival to Miley Cirus on Hannah Montana. This is also the first entry on Billboard for Shanica, whose kin Beyonce and Solange have racked up 22 No. 1's and 6 Top 10 singles respectively on this chart.

The single is available, along with additional mixes from remixers including Grammy-nominated producer StoneBridge, Marat Leon and Serbsican, on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Soundcloud and iHeartRadio. A follow-up remix EP will be released next month on all digital platforms.
