TRIPTYCH to Make Victorian Premiere at Arts Centre Melbourne

Following international seasons, Bungandidj and Ngarrindjeri choreographer Lewis Major's work Triptych will make its Victorian premiere at Fairfax Studio, Arts Centre Melbourne from 22 - 26 September 2026.

Presenting three luminous short works – Prologue, Unfolding and Epilogue – this award-winning mixed bill choreographed by Major, is an evocative fusion of movement, music and light.

From humble beginnings as a sheep shearer in regional South Australia, Major is now considered one of Australia's leading choreographic talents, with work performed across six continents to widespread acclaim. After many years of collaboration and mentorship with British legendary dancemakers Russell Maliphant OBE and Hofesh Schechter, Triptych is Major's opus.

Performed by four world-class dancers, Triptych's triple bill of mixed repertoire pieces investigate various poetic possibilities, universal rhythms and cycles. Each piece explores the connection and non-duality of internal and external worlds set within a whirling maelstrom of powerful movement, ethereal soundscapes and sculptural lighting.

“Triptych has toured all over the world for the past two years — 12 countries and over a hundred shows, in fact! — but it always feels best to bring it back to Australian audiences. We've been planning this Arts Centre Melbourne season since opening night back in 2024, and I'm thrilled that its first time in Melbourne finally gives us the chance to share this work with our friends, family, and colleagues here,” said Lewis Major.

Triptych has had sold-out tours across Europe and South America as well as Australian seasons, garnering more than a dozen awards including Best Dance Adelaide Fringe Festival 2025, Best Overall Dance Work FRINGEWORLD 2025 and The Spirit of the Fringe Award Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024 among others.
