SEASCAPE WITH SHARKS AND DANCERS To Open 1/22 At Studio/Stage

By:

Don Nigro's Seascape with Sharks and Dancer opens on January 22nd at Studio/Stage, 520 North Western Ave.

On a solitary walk along the misty Cape Cod coast in the middle of the night, an aspiring novelist fishes a naked young woman out of the surf. So begins Don Nigro's offbeat romantic comedy about love at first sight and what follows. Set against the social currents of the seventies, the couple is cast into a calamitous romance propelled by his distant emotionality and her self-destructive nature. Flirtatious gibes drift into personal arguments that reveal the visceral chasm between them. Seascape with Sharks and Dancer is a raw play in which the unlikely lovers find themselves in a war about intimacy and understanding that neither can afford to lose.

The writer is played by Matthew Hannon, who last appeared as Cradeau in a production of Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit which he also produced and directed. Starring alongside him is the lovely Christine Weatherup, who has previously appeared in General Hospital and Grounded for Life and is currently starring in the Strike TV webseries Engaged: the Show. The play was developed under the direction of Benjamin Haber Kamine, who also directed the world premier production of Cheesesteak Latkes by Matt Ocks. Scenic design is by Geronimo Guzman of SAS Theatrical, who translates Studio/Stage into a decrepit beach house. The lighting design is by Matthew Brian Denman, production manager and resident lighting designer of the Celebration Theatre.

The show is scheduled to run through March 5th. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 PM, with two Sunday shows at 8 PM on February 21 and February 28. Opening weekend performances are January 22-23 at 8 PM with a Sunday matinee performance at 2 PM. Tickets are available online at www.sharksanddancer.com/tickets or by phone, 1-800-838-3006.
