Just a few days away for the Career Transition For Dancers - the10th Gala Anniversary - Rolex presents DANCING ON AIR: A Dance Tribute to Television this coming Monday, October 25th at 7:00 pm at City Center, 131 West 55 Street (bet. 7 & 6 Ave) New York City. The Gala performance once again promises to be the dance entertainment event of the 2004-05 Season. Directed by Tony Stevens, the evening will honor and pay tribute to some of the shows and stars that provided those glorious moments of dance on the television screen (from the small screens and days of black and white to the expansion of color). Once again, the Gala will feature some World Premieres that are especially created for the show. The spectacular evening will include Toni Basil, Wayne Brady, Marge Champion, Mercedes Ellington, Jane Lanier, Phylicia Rashad, Chita Rivera, Arthur Mitchell, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Orfeh, Donald Saddler, Edward Villella and others, as well as artists representing American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Joffrey Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Peter Pucci Plus Dancers, The Ailey School, World Cup Shooting Stars All Star Cheerleading. Debbie Allen and Patricia Kennedy are the honorees. Ann Marie DeAngelo is the producer. Robert Mikulski is the Musical Director (program subject to change)
The spectacular show will feature some world premieres that are especially created for the event. "Lover" a tribute to June Taylor choreographed by former June Taylor dancer Mercedes Ellington. 'A Look Back To Bandstand & Soul Train" choreographer by Tony Stevens. "Mickey" the hit song choreographer by it's creator Toni Basil. Students from The Ailey School will perform "Fame" choreographed by Debbie Allen. Allan Johnson is recreating the Shirley MacLaine hit "Sweet Georgia Brown". The pas de deux: Le Corsaire; Agon; Light Rain; Diana and Acteon, and In The Garden will be performed. The evening is a benefit for Career Transition For Dancers. With offices in New York and Los Angeles, CTFD has helped over 2,800 professional dancers identify their unique talents in preparation for establishing new careers when dance is no longer an option.
