Texas Performing Arts Essential Series Presents LOVE AND DUTY: A CELEBRATION OF THE CHAMBER MUSIC OF BRAHMS

By:

Love and Duty marks the launch of a semester-long celebration of the music of Johannes Brahms, curated by Miró Quartet. In addition to the programs in McCullough Theatre, the project features additional chamber music concerts by Butler School of Music faculty and students, plus a major string quartet seminar.

Miró Quartet cellist and founding member Joshua Gindele describes Brahms as "one of the great lyrical composers in classical music and a compositional genius who wrote fantastic soaring lines." These two unique programs in McCullough Theatre feature Miró Quartet and special guests in a celebration of the chamber music of Brahms.

The title Love and Duty is culled from Brahms' inner life turmoil which revolved around the tension between his love for Clara Schumann and his duty to Robert Schumann and his family after Robert's death. Passion and restraint, and freedom and discipline were emotional polarities in constant conflict in his personal life, and are clearly dramatized in his chamber music.

In addition to $10 tickets for primary, secondary, and college students, Texas Performing Arts is now offering a limited number of $12 tickets to active and retired military personnel for all 2016-2017 Essential Series performances (excludes Broadway and special engagements). A military ID is required. For a schedule of upcoming 2016-2017 season performances, please visitwww.TexasPerformingArts.org.
