SING DEMOCRACY 250 Will Present National Tour Finale in Washington, D.C.
The four-city tour features newly commissioned works by Brandon A. Boyd and Michael Bussewitz-Quarm
Sing Democracy 250 will present its final Signature Concert at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. The performance marks the culmination of a national series of concerts celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The concert will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at DAR Constitution Hall. Performers will include the Together In Hope Choir, Congressional Chorus, National Children’s Chorus – Scholars Washington, D.C., and the Main Line Symphony Orchestra, conducted by G. Phillip Shoultz, III. The program will also feature a cameo appearance by mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves.
The performance will include two newly commissioned works. Redeem the Dream by Brandon A. Boyd sets Langston Hughes’ poem “Let America Be America Again,” reflecting on the gap between the ideals of American democracy and lived experience. US by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm draws on text by Richard Haass alongside quotations from figures including Frederick Douglass, Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Barbara Jordan, John Lewis, Abraham Lincoln, and Sandra Day O’Connor, exploring the responsibilities of citizenship.
Additional program selections will include The Star-Spangled Banner, America, the Beautiful, and Lift Every Voice and Sing.
“Bringing this tour to a culmination in Washington, D.C. is both intentional and deeply fitting,” said co-founders Gary Aamodt and Celia Ellingson. “As the final stop in our national four-city Signature Concert tour, this concert brings the Sing Democracy 250 message to our nation's capital.”
Conductor G. Phillip Shoultz, III added, “Music has a unique power to gather us in the same space, to help us listen to one another, and to remind us of our shared humanity. When we sing together, we practice the very act of community.”

Beyond the Signature Concerts, the Sing Democracy 250 initiative includes the All America Program, which invites choirs nationwide to perform the commissioned works in their own communities, with more than 150 choirs participating across 30 states and Washington, D.C.
