Catherine Wolf Opens Her New One Woman Show ON BECOMING At Cherry Lane Theatre Sept. 23

By:

The Colleagues Theatre Company will present actress/writer Catherine Wolf in her new one-woman show "ON BECOMING" at The Cherry Lane Theatre, 33 Commerce Street, NYC on September 23-26, 2009. The play with music will be directed by Jack Gindi with Paul Trueblood as Musical Director and lighting by Marcia Madeira.

"ON BECOMING" is Catherine's voyage, through songs and stories, of growing up surrounded by very colorful, famous and talented personalities. Catherine's role models were her Grandmother Lea Luboshutz, a violinist, who had concertized all over Europe and was brought to America by Sol Hurok; her Great Uncle and Aunt, Pierre Luboshutz and Genia Nemenoff, who were world famous Duo Pianists, and her illustrious Uncle Boris Goldovsky, who for 30 years was heard on the radio every Saturday, discussing the operas during the intermissions of the Metropolitan Opera Broadcast. In this one woman show Catherine brings to life this group of exciting and gifted individuals. Catherine said, with a smile, "At the age of six I realized I'd never be the child prodigy my Grandmother had been. But then I was taken to see the great Kitty Carlisle Hart in "Lady in the Dark" and my life was changed forever. I decided to be an actress."

Catherine's play explores her relationships with several distinguished classical music stars (and members of her family) including:

Catherine's uncle Boris Goldovsky was intimately involved in the opera department at Tanglewood from its inception. He later founded the New England Opera Theater and the Goldovsky Opera Theater and become famous as a regular contributor to the Metropolitan Opera's Saturday afternoon broadcasts for over 40 years. Boris also studied with Dohnanyi in Hungry.

Catherine's grandmother Lea Luboshutz taught at Curtis Institute of Music, soloed with most of the major orchestras, and toured the US and Europe, presented by Sol Hurok . One of her teachers was Ysaie who also taught the Queen of Belgium. "Lubo" was asked to come to the palace to play duets with the Queen (a story told in "On Becoming".)

Her great uncle Pierre Luboshutz accompanied Isadora Duncan when she danced in Russia
and toured with the great Koussevitzky. Pierre also played in the pit for Stanislavski's Pier Gynt. Her great Aunt Genia Nemenoff was Pierre's pupil in Paris and became his wife and partner in their world-famous Duo Piano concerts.

Catherine played Jennifer Connolly's Mother in the Oscar-nominated film "Little Children" as well appearing in "What's Your Sign". On BROADWAY she played leading roles in AN INSPECTOR CALLS (Stephen Daldry, Director), OTHERWISE ENGAGED (Harold Pinter, Director) and THE INNOCENTS (Harold Pinter, Director). Off-Broadway she appeared in CLOUD NINE, BEAU JEST, THE COUNTESS and I CAN'T KEEP RUNNING IN PLACE. Catherine's TV credits include Law and Order, The Jury, Sex and the City, Oz, and Cagney and Lacey. She has also worked in regional theatres including Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Seattle's ACT, Folger, Philadelphia Drama Guild, Pittsburgh Public, and Chautauqua Opera Theatre.

Prior to the New York engagement, "On Becoming" was well-received at The Stonington Opera House in Maine and at the Cape May Stage in New Jersey.

Tickets at $22.50 will be available through TeleCharge.com or (212) 239-6200 beginning August 24th. The performance schedule for "ON BECOMING" is September 23, 24, 25 and 26 at 8PM with a 3PM matinee on September 26.
