At a time when getting that much needed break as a writer seems next to impossible, 13 aspiring writers and 12 artists have realized their dream when the book they were published in, "Writers of the Future Volume 31," hit #7 on the Publishers Weekly bestseller list earlier this month making them all national bestselling authors.
"Writers of the Future Volume 31," released in May, is a compilation of 13 top science fiction and fantasy short stories written by winners of the Writers of the Future Contest and illustrated by the 12 Illustrators of the Future Contest winners. The winning authors listed alphabetically are: Michael T Banker, Zach Chapman, Krystal Claxton, Daniel Davis, Kary English, Auston Habershaw, Amy H Hughes, Sharon Joss, Samantha Murray, Tim Napper, Steve Pantazis, Scott R Parkin and Martin L. Shoemaker. Winning illustrators listed alphabetically are: Alex Brock, Amit Dutta, Megan Kelchner, Tung Chi Lee, Shuangjian Liu, Michelle Lockamy, Megen Nelson, Taylor Payton, Quinlan Septer, Emily Siu, Daniel Tyka and Choong Nyung Yoon. The Writers of the Future writing contest (www.writersofthefuture.com) was initiated by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 to provide a means for aspiring writers to get that much-needed break.
