William H. Cooper Jr. Offers 'Reading Light' for Christians Pastor and teacher William H. Cooper Jr. believes that alongside the Scriptures, there are writings worth reading that can help a Christian believer walk in a more productive way. Cooper felt that there must be Christians who would like a little guidance as to what they might read with profit. Out of this came "Reading Light: Ten Books Every Christian Should Read" (published by Balboa Press), a guidebook that provides Christians with essential recommendations for readable books with the promise of great reward.

"Reading Light" presents guidance for Christian readers, featuring recommendations for Christian books that were both educational and enjoyable. It serves not as a scholar offering a lecture but as a friend sharing a good read with others and describing what benefits they can gain from each book. Cooper stresses the need for Christians to read books with spiritual substance. He focuses on 10 authors and their most prominent works, exploring their lives and considering the reasons each book might be beneficial.

"(The book) is laid out so the reader can learn about the writer and his/her life before they are given information on the book. This format makes this book perfect for solitary reading as well as Sunday schools and book clubs. It is (written) for any regular reader from high school to seminary with profit," Cooper emphasizes. He is also positive that the book will help believers develop a more consistent worldview to enable them to grow in their faith and better become salt and light to a "needy" generation.
