'Water for Elephants' author, Sara Gruen bought over $23,000 worth of Hatchimals on eBay so she could sell them on an auction site for profit.

Money raised was go to toward the defense of "a wrongfully convicted man who was sentenced to LWOP (Life Without Parole) 23 years ago, and who has been incarcerated since." She spent $150,000 of her own money in legal fees to defend this man.

After putting the Hatchimals on auction at eBay, the auction site wrote to her saying that users can only sell three Hatchimals per week on the site.

Gruen tried other sites, but to no avail. She finally set up her own website to attempt to sell the Hatchimals and make a dent in her debts. Check out her site here: https://the-gruen-zoo.myshopify.com/
