Veteran Jim Miller Explores the Lasting Bonds of Brotherhood in New War Novel

St. Louis

More than 47 thousand were killed in battle during the Vietnam War. Another 10 thousand died of diseases. And as of July of 2014, nearly 2 thousand remain unaccounted for in Southeast Asia. Vietnam was one of the deadliest wars in American history and many families are still feeling its lasting impact today.

"Never Left Behind," a military novel by Vietnam veteran and author Jim Miller, was partly inspired by Miller's own service during Vietnam and the passing years that went on with no answers to the whereabouts of those missing in action.

"I am a Vietnam veteran," Miller said. "The situation surrounding those missing and killed during that war has always bothered me. I wanted to honor our heroes by writing a story about survival and never giving up on your brothers in arms."

"Never Left Behind" provides readers with an in-depth look at the Vietnam War from the perspective of someone who survived the experience.

"I have tried to get into the head of men who were my enemy nearly sixty years ago," Miller said. "What I've come to realize, is that even though they were my enemy during the war, the North Vietnamese were real people with much the same cares as me and the men I served with in their country."
