Two Women Share Unspeakable Tragedy, Form Lasting Bond

Rhonda Johnson Wootton and Zula Jantsan were unlikely friends. Wootton is from Colorado, and Jantsan is from Mongolia. They came together, through mission work and service. However, their bond was deepened by shared and tragic loss.

While Wootton was in Mongolia, comforting Jantsan over the loss of her young son, Wootton's own son also tragically died.

In "Watching the Dragonfly Dance: A Shared Journey of Ministry, Tragedy…and Transformation," by Rhonda Johnson Wootton, both mothers share their stories of the loss of a child, while forming a lasting bond of friendship.

"Through this journey, both Zula and I have become reluctant students in learning how to grieve," Wootton said. "This is a story of God's healing power and love, our love given and shown to each other, and love shared to the farthest ends of the earth."

Wootton said it is her hope that others will find comfort, release and encouragement from her book.

"When my son died, I suddenly became a member of the community of the brokenhearted," Wootton said. "The credential was unbidden, but now is one I hold dear; for, through this community, hope abounds."

Rhonda Johnson Wootton is a certified conciliator and grandmother to nine grandsons. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., with her husband, Rick. She has traveled extensively through Central and East Asia, doing short-term mission work.

Zula Jantsan is a young mother with a master's degree in Biblical Studies from East Asia School of Theology. She and her husband, Baataraa, are on staff with Mongolia Campus Crusade for Christ, working with MCCC's Global Church Movement. They live in Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia) with their teenage son, Odko.
