LONDON - During the First World War, the British Royal Navy dominated the seas and helped win the war. The Grand Fleet was composed of the most powerful battleships of the age. In "Tucker and HMS LION" (published by Xlibris UK) author John Hinton has written an exciting book that shows readers the day to day life of a young officer aboard HMS Lion, the flagship of the legendary 1st Battle Cruiser Squadron.

"Tucker and HMS Lion" follows Lieutenant Reginald Tucker's service aboard HMS Lion. The events were taken from his personal war journal and describe his many adventures as a member of the Grand Fleet. It also shows how he formed friendships with many well-known and respected figures of the time and survived various naval battles as well as his exploits as an envoy during a high-risk mission.

This book was written by the author to demonstrate to readers the day to day rigours of life at sea 100 years ago and also provide an in-depth look at naval warfare on board the great ships of the time.

About the Author
John Hinton, a published author and journalist, has worked for Time Magazine in New York City and for the Times of London. His research into the Grand Fleet began when he made a documentary about the survivors of the Battle of Jutland. A number of the men he interviewed had served aboard the battle cruisers, designed as fast scouts for the main fleet. Cleared for action, the men faced the dangers of shellfire and drowning with dogged determination. Afterwards, the split-second decisions and tensions of battle could always be relieved by sharing drinks and laughter in the wardroom. Inspiration and encouragement for the creation of a youthful character who would reflect the Royal Navy at the time was provided by George MacDonald Fraser, author of the Harry Flashman books, noted for their historical accuracy.
