Sofia University (formerly Institute of Transpersonal Psychology) has announced an event featuring Alexander and Helen Astin, co-authors of the book, Cultivating the Spirit: How College Can Enhance Students' Inner Lives. The event will include a reception, presentation and book signing from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 21.

Based on extensive research with college students and faculty, the latest book from distinguished authors Alexander and Helen Astin discusses how cultivating the spirit improves key academic and developmental outcomes. This groundbreaking topic emerges from the authors' extensive quantitative and qualitative research. The book's emphasis on key student outcomes makes this resource a must-have for audiences across higher education, including faculty, administrative leadership and student affairs staff.

Alexander Astin, Ph.D., is the Allan M. Carter Professor Emeritus of Higher Education at UCLA and Founding Director of the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. Dr. Astin has authored 20 books and more than 300 other publications in the field of higher education, and has been a recipient of awards for outstanding research from more than a dozen national associations and professional societies.

Helen Astin, Ph.D., is a psychologist and Professor Emeritus of Higher Education. She is also Senior Scholar of the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. In the American Psychological Association, Dr. Astin has served on the Boards of Policy and Planning and Education and Training and has been president of the Division of the Psychology of Women. She has also served as Chair of the Board of the American Association for Higher Education. She has published numerous articles and eleven books. Her research and current writings focus on leadership and on spirituality in higher education.
