In her debut release, "Alpha B*tch: A Cinderella Story" (published by iUniverse), Sarah Ann Murphy revisits her troubled childhood and chronicles how she rose above the trauma in her life.

"Have you been put upon and put down?" states the book's tagline. "Me too, let me tell you how I solved it."

Both sobering and empowering, Murphy's story is one of triumph, not defeat. "I learned to change my inner self by rejecting most of what the patriarchy has said in relation to how women are supposed to act," she writes. "Women are important to the world."

An excerpt from the book "Alpha B*tch":

"It was not until my 60's that I began to understand, only somewhat, why Old Mother hated me. I now understand that in some ways she was a victim of patriarchal culture, although she did not stand up to it - she just gave in. In so doing, she cast an evil net over my brother and me. She probably had tremendous guilt over the things she did, which contributed to her depression and drinking, as she did not live up to those patriarchal standards."
