BISMARK, ND

Helen Lane and her husband have served as pastor or interim in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisiana, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and Mexico.

"We went where God needed us," Lane said. "My family has always supported our ministry work in different communities, for this I'm eternally grateful."

Now that Lane's children are grown and she's retired from the ministry, she's compiled a memoir of their family adventures and faith-based teachings. "Stumps and Sweet-Smelling Soap" shares the importance of traveling to spread God's word and raising kids with strong Christian values.

"I do not pretend to be a theologian," Lane said. "I'm simply a person who has walked closely with the Lord for many years and I would like for my experiences to encourage others to trust the Lord with abandon."
