In his new book "Jesus on Stage: John's Gospel and Greek Tragedy " (published by AuthorHouse UK), author Philip Oakeshott argues that the Gospel of John is, in its present form, an ancient historical novel and that the evangelist's first draft was his own version of a Greek play.

Oakeshott believes that John's Gospel is not well understood in its present form. For this reason, he decided to write a book detailing his hypothesis that John wrote his Gospel not as a proclamation of his beliefs as a disciple of Jesus, but as a tragic Greek play expressing John's own theatrical and dramatic personality.

Oakeshott says people can have a clearer picture of Jesus if they understand and consider John's Gospel as inspired fiction. The book goes into detail about John's writings and their relation to historical Grecian speeches, philosophical writings and stage plays.

Readers can expect to find correlations between the writings of John and the musings of Sophocles, the choruses of various plays and much more within "Jesus on Stage."
