The real inspiration for "Sophia's Red Hat" (published by Trafford Publishing) is author Patricia Nichvolodoff's daughter who once owned a little red hat like Sophia's, but one day she lost her favorite hat and was clever enough to make another one by herself. This ingenious spirit gave the author the idea to write this story.

"Sophia's Red Hat" is a story that takes readers on a journey with little Sophia as she uses her red hat to transform her grandmother and then her mother, and eventually the whole town. This story's message of kindness is engaging and heartwarming as it builds on anticipation and settles with thoughtful acts of love.

The overall theme of the story is overcoming a disappointing circumstance with a clever idea and a small act of kindness. Sophia's kindness then sets a whirlwind of kindness throughout the town.

This multifaceted picture book is different from other books like it because it has an exponential mathematical problem woven into the story. The exponential component of the story is related to how kindness grows in the town. The end of the book includes a mathematical question relating to this component of the story.
