Author and educator Amanda J. Jones, Ed.D. sets out to provide English and language arts teachers a more comprehensive understanding of Black English dialect, the learning preferences of black students, teachers' perceptions of Black English usage and the cultural differences that play a crucial role in her informative new guidebook "Overcoming Language Barriers: How Teachers Can Help Dialect Speakers Succeed" (published by AuthorHouse).

Comprehensive and thoroughly researched, "Overcoming Language Barriers" aims to assist educators in promoting the success of those who speak Black English as well as other dialect speakers. It provides an introductory look at Black English dialect and includes practical solutions for meetings the needs of linguistically different students and other learners through cultural sensitivity and best practices in education.

In addition, Jones also shares insightful data gathered from her research study of other English and language arts teachers' perceptions of Black English usage, addressing topics including brain-based learning, multiple intelligences and practical strategies for assisting linguistically different students.

"Research shows that many African American and other minority students continue to trail their counterparts in academia," Jones writes. "Some linguists and scholars agreed that overcoming barriers to communication between mainstream teachers and dialect speakers may assist in combating the educational plight of many of these students."
