Nel Rand Renews Marketing Push for MISSISSIPPI FLYWAY

CORNELIUS, Ore.

Nel Rand had recurring dreams in which her grandmother urged her to write about her personal past of sexual abuse. This history of sexual abuse was put into fiction form in Rand's 2007 book, "Mississippi Flyway" (published by iUniverse).

This year, Rand is embarking on a new marketing push for "Mississippi Flyway", featuring an online radio interview, fresh press materials and a publishing industry catalog print advertisement.

"Mississippi Flyway" tells the story of an adventurous and somewhat picaresque road trip taken by a father and daughter that follows the Mississippi River and bird flyway from St. Louis to New Orleans.

Ellie Moon tries to recapture memories of a dark past that haunts her and keeps her from a sense of belonging in the world. Tiny Moon, Ellie's estranged father, seeks redemption for his past actions while attempting to escape the wrath of a dangerous sheriff named Dover.

"'Mississippi Flyway' will appeal to readers who like a well-written adventure that is both dark and humorous," Rand says. "It is filled with interesting characters in the form of Tiny's sidekicks and gambling buddies, plus the main characters. It portrays the racial situation in the 1960s in the Midwest and the South. It also deals with the way incest was ignored or never spoken of in families during the 1940s, and the consequences of such silence for the victims."

About the Author
Nel Rand was born a stone's throw from the Mississippi River in St. Louis and grew up in Kentucky and southern Illinois. "Mississippi Flyway" is her first novel.
