What drives a young man to revolutionary fervor, is it the longing for freedom or the desire for power? Who suffers the most in this cause? Author Mohamed Yimam tells their story at the time of social and political upheaval in his new publication, "Wore Negari." This book is inspired by the life and death of many young people who participated in the struggle for justice, economic and political progress in Ethiopia in the 1970s. It attempts to give voice and tell the stories of many young people whose individual bravery and integrity would not otherwise be known by future generations.

"Wore Negari" is also a discourse on the major events of the seventies, and the issues that pitted the left against the left, and the civil war that consumed them all. It is a story of survival against all odds and the responsibility the survivor assumes to tell their story. In many ways, it is the tale of ordinary people who are thrown into extraordinary circumstance by events beyond their own control. Why people act the way do in times of social and political upheaval is fascinating.

Mohamed Yimam is an immigrant from Ethiopia. He completed his undergraduate work at Penn and holds a Masters degree in Public Management from Yale. He lives and works in Alexandria, Va. He is married and have two daughters. He is currently working in American Public University System (APUS).
