In "The Snake, the Humming Bird and Me" (published by AuthorHouse), Lynda Funk's delightful new children's book, young readers are given a glimpse into the true story of three unlikely garden partners: a snake, a hummingbird and a woman.

When this Midwestern woman, who has been afraid of snakes her entire life, is warned by a friendly hummingbird that she will meet a little garden snake, she is unsure of what she should do. However, the curious little snake fascinates her, and she is mesmerized by the creature slithering along her path in the garden. Then he gets a little too close for comfort, but not before the woman has the chance to change her mind about the way she feels about snakes.

An excerpt from "The Snake, the Humming Bird and Me":

"I had more thoughts about his little life so close to the ground, but I wasn't afraid. It was really quite interesting to watch him discover a branch in his way, then a rock and other small things that delayed his travel towards me.

Even with this epiphany, he was becoming uncomfortably too close."

Funk says "The Snake, the Humming Bird and Me" is cute and fun for young readers, but she also stresses an important lesson that the book offers. "I want to show children that they should keep an open mind about nature," she says. "I want to invite curiosity about gardening."

"The Snake, the Humming Bird and Me" comes with activity pages, including coloring, dot-to-dot, maze, word explanations and how parents can make hummingbird feeders with their children.
