Lyle A. George Releases GARDEN OF EASTON

LOVELAND, Colo.

Laird Easton had a vision, and the implementation of this vision threatened to tear his marriage apart and endanger his very life. Easton's plan for an alternative prison for the most incorrigible and non-rehabilitatable prisoners was unprecedented, but it was just crazy enough that it could work, notes this new novel. Easton I covered hundreds of miles of land forested with lakes, streams, mountains and plentiful wildlife, and the prisoners were contained by a 10-foot wall topped with laser beams that would annihilate any prisoner who attempted escape. Prisoners who were deemed unredeemable were dropped within the confines of these walls with supplies for survival, never to be released again.

Easton and his wife, Wanda, were firm believers that this was the best use of taxpayer money and a viable solution to overcrowding within the prison system. Unfortunately, not everyone agreed. Activists screamed that the prisoner's basic civil rights were violated and the prison was against the laws of God and man. Easton and Wanda found themselves in the crosshairs of someone determined to harm them, if not kill them outright. Meanwhile, prisoners who resided at Easton I found themselves rebuilding a society of sorts, with leaders emerging and weak links being eliminated. Can the Eastons keep themselves alive long enough to see their plans come to fruition, and will the prisoners at Easton I create a viable living situation? Will the dream of Easton I remain a reality?

"Garden of Easton" skillfully combines a thrilling mystery with a thoughtful rumination on prison reform. Easton's plan for prisoners who are unwilling or unable to be rehabilitated is fascinating, and the rational behind it worthy of discussion.
Author Lyle A. George gleaned the seed for this novel from his father, a captain with the State Reformatory who firmly believed that habitual criminals should be incarcerated separately from criminals serving time for lesser offenses. His ideas helped George create the prison featured within the novel. George, a Korean War veteran, lives in Colorado. This is his first novel.
