Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2017 (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/best-in-travel) is the bestselling, inspirational travel yearbook from the world's leading travel authority that highlights the top ten countries, cities, regions, best value destinations and travel trends that Lonely Planet's experts recommend travelers experience in 2017.

Canada receives the accolade of number one country in the world to visit next year, followed by Colombia and Finland, while Bordeaux tops the cities list, beating Cape Town and Los Angeles. The region which Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2017 declares the number one must-see in the coming year is Choquequirao in Peru, with New Zealand's Taranaki and The Azores also making the top three. Nepal was crowned Lonely Planet's Best Value destination of 2017, closely followed by Namibia, Porto and Venice.

Lonely Planet's writers and experts spend time on the road in almost every destination on the planet, and each year they report which are the best places to travel in the year ahead. The destinations selected for Best in Travel meet specific criteria; it could be that something special is going on in the year ahead or there's been recent development and a lot of buzz about the place, that it offers travelers new things to see or do or that the Lonely Planet team of experts thinks it's been overlooked and underrated and suggests travelers visit before the crowds do.

Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2017 also features five travel trends that consumers should look out for 2017. Remote working, bikepacking, instaviduality, sustainable travel and microdistilleries were all pinpointed as ones to watch. Lonely Planet's experts also rank the top ten Best Family Adventure destinations and Ten Best Places to Stay in Best in Travel 2017.

Deciding what to include in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel annual selection is a considered process involving the whole of Lonely Planet's community: from its writers and editors all the way to its online family of bloggers and tweeters. Each year, they come up with hundreds of places that are not to be missed. These are then whittled down by a panel of in-house travel experts who shortlist in line with criteria such as topicality, excitement and wow-factor.

Travelers can enter a My Best in Travel competition to win a trip for two to the number one country, Canada, and a host of Samsung's latest mobile technology from Best in Travel's sponsor Samsung Electronics.

Lonely Planet's US magazine Winter 2016 issue, which hits newsstands November 7, is a Best in Travel 2017 special edition, running extended features on the chosen destinations including encountering polar bears in number one country Canada, taking a journey through one of the top countries, Myanmar, and walking the length of Sunset Boulevard in one of the top cities, LA. The magazine also features the Northern Lights in Finland and a four-page photo story set in Mongolia.
